HATHA :: All Levels

This class is taught by:

Lea Kraemer

Lea Kraemer is a former professional modern dancer and choreographer from the East Coast. She performed and toured throughout the USA and in Asia, bringing this vitality and enthusiasm into her classes. Yoga began to enchant her in the late 1980’s, together with the lifestyle of non-violence, vegetarianism, and fierce compassion. Since then her extensive studies have taken her to India from Mysore where she studied with Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, to Dharamsala where she received Tibetan Buddhist teachings. In the U.S. she completed training with a major, international ashram in Hatha Yoga and numerous certification programs in Vinyasa and Kundalini Yoga, tremendously enjoying teachings from master Yogi Bhajan. She has studied classical Ayurveda, the ancient, Indian “science of life”, since 2004 through Kerala Ayurveda and the DINacharya Institute directed by Dr. Bhaswati Bhatttacharya, where she is also a faculty member.

Lea founded PRANA MANDIR Yoga in 2001 with a NYC studio that ran for nine years. The school continues with Teacher Trainings in Vinyasa and Yoga as Therapy. Privately, she adores working with clients to assist them in healing from chronic and life threatening illness.

Lea’s daily practice begins with meditation in the tradition of her Guru. She feels blessed to share Wisdom teachings everyday. Her classes are dynamic choreographies of the soul, balancing the major meridian channels for steady joy and radiant peace.

Matthew Clark

Matthew is a professional drummer, yoga instructor, chef, edible gardener and nature enthusiast. He has toured all over the US and Europe with various bands and finds a similar meditative space in music as he finds in yoga.

Trained in India and in the US Matthew combines the two worlds in his classes, the spirtual east and the physical west. Matthew often plays records in his class. Come to his hatha yoga class for some good music, a steady, mellow stretch, some core work and detoxifying twists, guided by the rhythm of your breath.

Ani Raya-Flores

As a trail runner and endurance athlete, Ani first came to yoga in search of increased flexibility and a stronger core. While she noticed the physical results immediately, it was the unexpected mental and emotional benefits that kept her coming back to the mat. She credits the yoga practice with giving her the clarity of mind, physical and emotional balance necessary to conquer the steepest of climbs, on and off the trails.

Ani strives to create an inclusive space for all bodies: a place to take the practice seriously, but not necessarily ourselves. She's always looking for creative ways to challenge and support her students, whether it's with blocks, blankets, or a gentle reminder to relax those grimaces while in chair pose. In Ani's classes you can expect detailed instruction, inventive core work, and playful transitions from pose to pose. Above all, it is her hope that students will leave class feeling a bit more at home in their bodies.

With a background in childcare and literature, Ani believes a great yoga class has all the elements of a great bedtime story: a knowledgable guide, a different journey ever time, and ultimately, a resting pose.

Jamie Myer

Jamie thinks that the key to happiness is contentment, compassion, and laughter. And sushi. And dogs. Lots of dogs.
Jamie believes that yoga is a constant practice, appropriate for every body, that should be approached with compassion for the self. Her classes focus on breath, alignment and body appreciation, and you will leave her class feeling calm, supported and empowered.

Nora Brank

Nora has been practicing yoga and meditation since she was a very young child. Her dad was an avid yogi and introduced her to the sun salutations at the tender age of five. These days, Nora starts every day with a sun salute and thanks her yoga practice for her health and well being. She believes that yoga can instill all of it's practitioners with a flexibility, resilience and grace that they can use both on and off the mat.

Nora has a MA in philosophy from a program that allowed her to study both Eastern and Western texts. Her love and knowledge of the mystical traditions included in the Vedic texts guides and deepens her yoga practice. You can find her blend of attention to the physical, and knowledge of the ancient, traditional, and spiritual in her Yoga & Meditation classes at Namaste Highland Park.

Shira Barlas

Shira recently graduated from Occidental College with a focus in Buddhist Philosophy and Critical Theory. A Buddhist herself, she loves taking different Buddhist theories and incorporating them into her yoga practice. She has traveled around Asia living in monasteries in India, Nepal, and China, where she studied under meditation masters and explored a monastic life style.
As a yoga teacher Shira helps to cultivate a diverse environment, moving beyond static and confining notions of what it means to be a yogi. She shines a light on the multiplicity and dynamism of the practice of yoga by cultivating an inclusive and accepting class environment, and always hopes to challenge her students to face their fears and find their powers.

Sondra Sun

Sondra Sun is a musician and artist whose practice of yoga began in 1998 and is informed by a lifelong interest in health and healing, as well as a passion for helping others. She obtained her 200hr teacher certification from Greenhouse Holistic in Brooklyn NY and shortly after, began her 300hr certification with Yoga Sukhavati.

She sees yoga as a powerful instrument for change in mind, body and health and is continually integrating her practice with her personal interest in nutritional/naturopathic healing and experience growing up w/ Chinese traditional medicine. Sondra's classes focus on alignment and moving w/ mindfulness of body and breath, respecting that every body is unique and different.

Beatrice Buenaventura

Beatrice believes that a consistent yoga practice allow us to create and nurture a connection within others and ourselves. She also believes that yoga can help build strong bodies, gain flexibility of the mind and body, may help conquer fears, and avoid injury, among many other benefits. Yoga brings people back to their natural state, one of true happiness and joy, and contributes to making our world a better place.

She humbly bows in gratitude to her teachers: Rich Logan, Kino Macgregor, Tias and Surya Little, Mollie Galbraith, Hillary Wright, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Richard Miller, Sharon Gannon, David Life, and David Swenson.

A steady practice with focus on proper alignment and holding of poses to engage, building strength, stamina, flexibility and balance as well as improving concentration and breath control.
**Introducing twists, some backbends, approachable inversions and the usage props (blocks, straps), this class is suitable for, and potentially challenging for ALL LEVELS as it can be taken as easily or deeply as one's body demands on a given day.
