At Namaste, we believe that self-care is crucial for our physical, emotional and mental well-being. We offer a safe space to practice self-care daily; with yoga, meditation, massage, chiropractic care, energy healing or steam sessions.
We strive to be a place of practice for people of all walks of life, old, young, limber, or stiff. We believe that yoga is a lifestyle. Yoga helps us learn to live happy, healthful lives by connecting with the best version of ourselves. Sure, getting the body fit and strong is part of that, but fitness is not all that we offer. We strive to condition the body so we can clear the mind and find peace in all areas of life.
Our yoga classes range from mellow HATHA classes to vigorous VINYASA classes, GENTLE classes (flow, restorative, yin) and combination YOGA & meditation or a yoga workout class. Those with back problems can find their version of yoga in YOGA :: Healthy Backs class.
The HIGHLAND PARK location features an Art Exhibition Space, holds urban life Workshops, has a small retail and Tea Shop. The gallery rotates exhibitions of local artists every 2 months. See what is currently on view here. Join us and do yoga in an art gallery!
The DOWNTOWN LA location is inside RA_Loft a wellness and beauty co-op along side a full service hair & nail salon, facials, acupuncture, massage and yoga!
Namaste is not merely a greeting used in “yoga circles”. Its meaning carries a deeper significance than a simple "hello" or "goodbye". It is universally recognized as one of peace, honor, and respect.
It means: We bow to you, Highland Park. We bow to you, Downtown LA.
Some other translations and meanings of the word Namaste include:
• The Divine light in us acknowledges the Divine light in you.
• The wisdom in us greets and meets the wisdom in you.
• We honor the spirit in you that is also in me. And when you are in that place in you and we are in that place in us – we are one.
“Namaste” is often spoken in combination with a slight bow and the Anjali Mudra – the placement of the hands together pulled close to the heart similar to prayer pose. The joining together of the palms connects the right and left hemispheres of the brain and represents unification, honouring of both the self and the other. Along with "Namaste", this gesture recognizes that the life force within us as individuals is the same as that within everything and everyone.
At Namaste Highland Park we bow to our inner goodness, to our students, we bow to our community and to everything that connects us; may it be art, love of tea, yoga or a simply need to relax, kick off our shoes and unwind.
The universal recognition and the spiritual energy that accompanies the essence of Namaste makes it a truly remarkable greeting. Just speaking the word Namaste – especially along with the Mudra posture – raises the vibrations of one's intention to greet one by honoring their inner goodness/God/light.
Our Core Values
Honoring the Power of Personal Connection. We recognize that we have the power to create memories. We recognize that the minute one walks through our doors it is our honor to have their business. We strive to give a 360’ experience, starting with heartfelt greeting; we remember regular students names. Our yoga classes are personal, not company scripted, we honor the wisdom of our teachers and encourage them teach to classes they believe in. We offer tea after class as a gesture of hospitality and an opportunity to slow down, connect and honor each other. We appeal to students’ senses - use rosemary scent throughout the studio (oil for adjustments, soap & lotion in the bathroom, floor cleaner & air freshener), an agent known to increase alertness and improve long-term memory.
Compassion. We practice Karma Yoga, Seva Seva, and serving those we interact with to our best ability. We help because we can, not because we have to. We seek first to understand, then to be understood. We care for each other, our students, and everyone we interact with. We seek win-win in all situations. We take actions that lead to long term happiness for ourselves and others, aware that in order to care for others we must first seek take care of ourselves, to live well balanced lives, focused on responsibilities, relationships, recreation, rest and health.
Living Yoga. We are committed to honoring the traditional yoga philosophies included in the yamas which encourage ahimsa or non harming, satya or truth, asteya or non stealing, brahmacharya or dedication, and aparigraha or non grasping. Committed to honoring the niyamas which encourage saucha or cleanliness, santosha or contentment, tapas or austerity, svadhyaya or study of oneself, and ishvara or surrender to the universe.
Character. We are willing to be honest with ourselves and others. We have the courage to say "No." We are open and have courage to face the truth, even when it is hard to hear. We have the integrity to do the right thing because it is right, even when it’s not convenient.
Respect. We treat others as we wish to be treated, with courtesy, politeness, and kindness.
Change. We are ware that we must evolve to remain useful and relevant. Pushing ourselves to our healthy edge and inspiring others to do the same, without judgment of where we are today.
Environmentally Conscious. Maintaining a healthy planet is the paramount responsibility of every human being. We are committed to taking actions to minimize environmental footprints by re- using, reducing and recycling, at the studio, in our personal lives, and beyond.
